Things to See and Do in Kuroishi City

With Mt. Iwaki and the Tsugaru plains to the west and the Hakkoda Mountains to the east, the city of Kuroishi is located right around the center of Aomori prefecture.
The Tsugaru plain is known as a heavy snow region. The city of Kuroishi features the Komise Street, an arcaded lane made to protect the pedestrians from snow storms.
In 1656, the history of the city of Kuroishi began with Tsugaru Nobufusa, the uncle and guardian of then Hirosaki Lord Tsugaru Nobuyoshi’s first son Tsugaru Nobumasa. Tsugaru Nobufusa inherited a portion (5,000 koku (approx. 31,850 ft3) out of 47,000 koku) of the Hirosaki feudal clan and established the Kuroishi Tsugaru clan.
The city of Kuroishi is endowed with rich nature and many historical sites where visitors can see and experience its history.
